I’m trying (trying, mind you) to figure out the wild and wonderful world of Ravelry. What an amazing resource this is! Up until today, I’ve also never used Flickr, so this has been a technological adventure to say the least.
I do have some photos on of my projects with lots more knitting detail up on Ravelry now, for the hard-core knitters that might peek at this blog.
If you’re a Ravelry junkie, I would love feedback (especially if as a newbie I’ve breached any knitting, blogging or Ravelry etiquette unbeknownst to me!).
Thanks for all the encouragement as I jump into this incredible world of crafting! Your comments and emails have really been appreciated!
🙂

Welcome to ravelry! It is addictive, isn’t it? When I first started, I spent a whole day photographing the yarn I have just to put it up in my stash and then I hunted down pictures of things I made long ago to add them to my projects. I think that might be a symptom of some sort of mental instability. Oh well. I don’t do much with the groups or forums. My favorite thing to do is to pick a yarn out of my stash I’ve decided I want to use and then see what everybody else on ravelry has made with it. I’ve had a couple cases where the stars aligned and I discovered that other people had used yarn that I have to make a pattern that I’d had in my queue all along. Hope you have as much fun with it as I do!

YES it’s addictive! I’ve thought of trying a beginner’s knit-a-long or a different kind of beginner group. Right now, I’m mostly just lurking around, looking for ideas, figuring our flickr, and trying to assimilate all that cool information! 🙂
I love the idea of searching projects with stash yarn as a filter. I’m looking forward to getting my stash uploaded and organized. Then I’m going to shamelessly copy your favorite thing!
So great to know I’m not the only one with yarn issues!
Thanks for visiting and hope you get the chance to come back often!

Hiya!
As a new member of Ravelry myself (just a few weeks) I am still exploring and must admit to having lots of fun. I joined the travelling teddies group and am playing host to a ted whilst my ted is off on his travels, kitted out with new hat, scarf and rucksack, all knitted or crocheted. Its great seeing how others have made their Ted’s accessories.
I have been a little confused about the stash, but reading these comments I think I understand now. I don’t have much of one at the mo, having parted with most of my yarn a few years ago. I ‘m starting again…with a vengeance. I have a huge fabric stash though 🙂
Flickr is great. I have been a member there for over a year and there is a huge crafting community and lots of crafty groups. You can visit my page http://www.flickr.com/people/kimmikat/
and see the groups I belong to and explore the way I’ve laid things out, and how people comment, (pretty much like this) and you will find that most of my contacts are crafty or artistic folk, so feel free to explore their pages and add them to your contacts if you wish. Me also 🙂
Enjoyed the posts I have read here and will be back again soon. Take care,
Susie.
